Exciting News!
Khloe Lisa Woof was born at 4:50 AM on May 16. Ben says she weighs 5 pounds, 10 ounces and is 19 inches long. Bright eyes and lots of hair!
Gebhardt
This week Jen Sweeney and Wendy Ferstenou attended conferences on Art Therapy, specifically on how to deal with grief. The two of them have paired up on some FANTASTIC projects in the past and are excited to implement some of what they learned into plans for next year. Some people find Art therapeutic, the concept of integrating art into the counseling that Wendy does is excellent. We also all know that at times every teacher acts in the role of counselor and therapist! It's a creative duo and the kids are certainly going to benefit from their work!
On Tuesday Shawn Moretti and the high school track athletes hosted the fifth grade Track and Field Day. The weather was gorgeous, but perhaps more importantly, everyone enjoyed good sportsmanship, excellent role modeling by the high school students as well as some healthy physical activity! It was fun to watch the kids test their skills, but it was excellent to watch their competitive drive and sportsmanship! Thanks, Shawn, for a great cross-curricular activity!
Middle School
The 6th Grade Staff and students enjoyed a beautiful day this week at Fall Hall Glen for the annual "6th grade Outdoor Ed Day." Stations included canoe safety, crafts, volleyball/s'mores, owl pellet dissection, geocaching, first aid, archery, and a nature hike. Quinn Robinson and the BRAGS students helped lead the geocaching station and assisted teachers in other stations. Randi Arneson joined us for the day and led the first aid station. The day was successful and most importantly, the kids had fun!
Brad Markhardt's eighth grade Exploring Agriscience class processed milk into cheese, utilizing an enzyme to denature and coagulate milk protein, while exploring how all cheese is alike and different.
Friday from 7-9 p.m. the 8th grade class will hold an 8th Grade Dance in the middle school gym. Sarah Anderson's 8th grade student council members should be commended for their organization skills and perseverance in seeing this through. It's been nearly 20 years since an 8th grade class has actually carried out their plans to have a dance - nice job, 8th graders and "Miss A."!!
Jim Rufsholm accepted a check for $500 from the Black River Memorial Hospital towards the purchase of the "Fitnessgram."
In Lee Amborn's art class, eighth graders have just finished up a pencil drawing of a still life, the seventh graders completed Flourescent Patterned Tools, and the sixth graders are completing their octotetrahedrons. Next week they will be cleaning all the art room tools that were used this year in preparation for next year.
Mike Shepard's 8th grade social studies students did an outstanding job presenting and displaying their projects at Wednesday's annual "8th Grade Decades Fair." I visited the fair along with the Chronicle, parents, family, and friends. In the 10 years since this event has been held, never have so many students chosen to dress up in their particular decade and get involved in their projects. Kudos all around to the 8th grade students and Mike!
High School
Students in Shawn Moretti's Health class were visited by Lisa Listle, the Drug Free Coalition Coordinator through Together for Jackson County Kids. Lisa gave a very informative presentation on the dangers of prescription drugs, titled "Good Drugs Gone Bad". Students learned about the misuse and abuse of these drugs, as well as how these drugs can be used purposefully and safely. A big thank you goes out to Lisa for spending time talking about this important topic with our students.
