Curriculum and Instruction

Welcome to the School District of Black River Falls!

I am absolutely thrilled at the possibilities that lie ahead for the School District of Black River Falls! I look forward to working together with our staff, parents, students and community to continue to build a system that is constantly focused on doing what is best for our students!

As a district, we have put many things in place to ensure student success across our system. Collectively, we will continually revisit our curriculum to make certain it is rigorous and relevant to the both the needs of our students and the ever-increasing demands to be both College and Career Ready in the world our students will enter after graduation. Likewise, we are committed to delivering curriculum with the most effective instructional methods that engage students and challenge them to apply their learning at the highest levels. Therefore, we will continue to provide professional development to our teachers in best practices of instruction to guarantee quality instruction for all students. Additionally, we will continually review our assessment data and our assessments themselves to make certain they are measuring the learning of our students and in turn, are informing teachers on their best next steps for instruction. Related to these areas, our district-wide system has initiatives in place like RtI (Response to Intervention), PLCs (Professional Learning Communities) and PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) to identify when students are struggling and respond to them with a variety of interventions and supports. Lastly, we have a wealth of other initiatives across the district that are in place to support student learning and achievement of high expectations. I invite you to take a closer look at our website and the websites of our buildings to find out more about the wonderful things we have going on for students across our district!

Please let me know if I can be of any assistance to you in any way! If you have any feedback, questions or opportunities within our district you wish to know more about, please feel free to contact me. I would like to leave you with this quote that hangs in my office, and truly speaks to what I believe about our district...
