September 29: EEF and Lahmayer Family

September 29, 2017

Hello, Black River Falls Community!  This is Dr. Shelly Severson, with the School District of Black River Falls, here to share this week’s installment of our Spotlight on Schools!  Today we are going to talk about an incredible organization and an exceptional family within that organization.  The organization is the Educational Enrichment Fund, and the family is Dr. Al Lahmayer and his lovely wife, Jeanette.

Dr.Lahmayer, as most of you know, has served our community for many years as an optometrist, building two clinics in town over the years.  Dr.Lahmayer has a long history of generosity, specifically when it comes to our schools.  While he is supportive of all of education, he has a particular interest, or “soft spot,” when it comes to music and special education programs.  It wasn’t that many years ago that he purchased new uniforms for our High School Marching Tigers.  These days, Dr. Lahmayer continues to spread his generosity and goodwill through the Education Enrichment Fund, where he serves as one of its founding trustees.  The Education Enrichment Fund has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars since its inception in 2006.  This year, Al and Jeannette are both celebrating their 90th birthdays.  To celebrate, they issued a challenge to the rest of the trustees and the greater community.  They initially made a $25,000 donation to be used for grants in the coming years.  If the Education Enrichment Fund could raise an additional $25,000 from other donors, the Lahmayer family would double their donation to bring their family’s total donation up to $50,000.  This would be a total increase of $75,000 to the principal of the fund.  Well, once again, our generous community met the challenge!

This weekend there will be a celebration in their honor to celebrate reaching this milestone. The mission of the Education Enrichment Fund is to use donations and earnings to purchase goods and services that will enrich the educational and extracurricular experiences of students within the Black River Falls School District.  The grants that are awarded put new resources directly in the hands of students.  Since the Education Enrichment Fund, along with our generous alumni and community, have created this grant opportunity for District staff, the School District of Black River Falls rarely applies for grants from the Black River Falls Area Foundation or the Lunda Charitable Trust.  This means that those organizations that have a more broad scope than education can fund the more diverse requests from not-for-profit organizations in our community.  In short, the Education Enrichment Fund does not solely support our schools, by proxy, there are more funds available for the rest of the organizations!

In short, we’d like to express our most sincere appreciation for the work of the Education Enrichment Fund trustees.  Specifically, the generosity of Dr. Al and Jeanette Lahmayer.  Our community is a better place because people such as them have decided to make Black River Falls their home.

As always, thank you so much for your support of the School District of Black River Falls!  If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact me!  Let’s show our Tiger Pride in all that we do!
