The meeting was called to order by President Jeff Pugh at 6:00 p.m.

Notices of the meeting were delivered to the Banner Journal, WWIS Radio Station and Melrose Chronicle and posted in three (3) public places on September 16, 2004 .

Meeting commenced with the Pledge of Allegiance.

Mike Johnson moved to approve the consent agenda with the addition of the following employment recommendations:  Tony Rieck, High School Hockey Coach and Mary Danielson, 9^th grade girls' basketball coach.  Paul Bohac seconded the motion.  Motion carried.

The following new staff members were introduced to the board:

Krista Paulson, Special Education, High School

Tina Boisen, Native American Student Services Specialist

Dr. Richards reported that CESA # 4 is having a legislative session on Monday, October 4 and if anyone is interested in attending they should contact the district office.  A team from Gebhardt School will be presenting a program at the Wisconsin Curriculum Directors meeting.  The 3^rd Friday pupil count will be available shortly and it is expected to be close to the number used for budget purposes. 

Rosanne Weber, High School Principal, appeared to explain how the high school addresses discipline and eligibility issues for students involved in non-athletic co-curricular activities.  Mrs. Weber and Dr. Lecheler will report back to the board in December with a proposal to address this issue.

Youth Governance - Deb Jones and Leslie Falcon presented information on Youth Governance.

Jeff Pugh reported that the WASB Fall meeting will be held on October 12^th in Westby.  The Lights on After School Program will be held on October 14^th at 6:00 p.m. starting at the Veterans Park .

Lois Corey reported on the activities of the most recent curriculum and instruction meeting.

Jill Collins, Director of Business Services, reported on the activities of the most recent business services committee meeting.

Mike Johnson moved to adjourn to closed session under Wis. Stats. 19.85(1)(c)(e) to act on non-faculty co-curricular compensation and to discuss terms of a contract with the city for the operation of the Lunda Center at 6:55 p.m.   Lois Corey seconded the motion.
