MINUTES OF MEETING NO. 5 OF THE
BOARD OF EDUCATION OF THE
SCHOOL DISTRICT
OF
BLACK RIVER FALLS
ON
OCTOBER 18, 2004
AT
6:00 P.M.
IN THE HIGH SCHOOL LMC.

The meeting was called to order by President Jeff Pugh at
6:00 p.m.
Notices of the meeting were
delivered to the Banner Journal, WWIS Radio Station and Jackson
County Chronicle and posted in three (3) public places on
October 14, 2004
.
Meeting commenced with the Pledge of Allegiance.
Dr. Richards stated that the high school would like the support of the
School Board for the KIDSVOTE 2004 activities.
The board approved a proclamation supporting the KIDSVOTE 2004
activities.
Paul Bohac moved to approve the consent agenda.
Mike Johnson seconded the motion.
Motion carried.
Jill Collins, Director of Business Services, explained the 2004-05
budget modifications.
Barb Mackenzie moved to approve the 2004-05 budget modifications as
presented. Don Mathews
seconded the motion. Motion
carried.
Barb Mackenzie moved to certify the 2004-05 tax levy of $4,811,726 with
a tax rate of $8.05 per $1,000 of property valuation.
Don Mathews seconded the motion.
Motion carried.
Barb Mackenzie moved to approve policy 531.1, Teacher Job Description,
as presented. Mike Johnson
seconded the motion. Motion
carried.
Dr. Richards reported that this is National School Bus Safety Week and
National Chemistry Week. The
district is the co-sponsor of the forum tomorrow night with Terry Musser
and Michael Taft. The debate
will be held in the middle school commons.
The community presentation of "Cyrano" will be held on
Thursday evening in the Lunda Theatre.
The annual Lions Club pancake breakfast will be held on Sunday
morning and the Troop send off will be held on Sunday afternoon.
Beth Hansen, Sarah Staff, Todd Fendt, Shelly Severson and Sherri
Torkelson will have a presentation at the Wisconsin Association of
School Curriculum Directors conference.
Al Barczak and Sherri Torkelson will be presenting an overview of
the district's Alternative Education program at the WEAC Conference.
Discussion was held on the functional analysis activity.
Brian Stemper, science department chairperson, appeared to present a
comprehensive report of the science department program review.
Jeff Pugh reported the School Law Seminar will be held on October 22 and
the Legislative Issues Conference will be held on November 13.
Barb Sedelbauer reported on the WASB regional meeting she attended last
week.
The Board Policy Committee presented the following policies for their 1st
reading by the board:

Mike Johnson moved to adjourn at
7:30 p.m.
