Meeting # 10 MINUTES OF MEETING # 10 (SPECIAL) OF THE BOARD OF EDUCATION OF THE SCHOOL DISTRICT OF BLACK RIVER FALLS ON FEBRUARY 13, 2006 AT 5:30 P.M. IN THE MIDDLE SCHOOL COMMONS Board Members Present: Ramie Bakken, Paul Bohac, Lois Corey, Don Mathews, Jeff Pugh, Barb Sedelbauer, Bill Waughtal Board Members Absent: None The meeting was called to order by President Jeff Pugh at 5:30 p.m. Notices of the meeting were delivered to the Banner Journal, WWIS Radio Station and Jackson County Chronicle and posted in three (3) public places on February 3, 2006. The meeting commenced with the Pledge of Allegiance. Lois Corey moved to amend the motion made on June 20, 2005 to change to a Pre-K-1 at Forrest Street School and two grade 2-5 schools at Third Street and Gebhardt beginning with the 2006-2007 school year. Barb Sedelbauer seconded the motion. Motion carries. Lois Corey moved to amend the motion from June 20, 2005 to read that the district will retain the Pre-K-1 building at Forrest Street School and realign grades 2 and 3 at Third Street School and grades 4 and 5 at Gebhardt School. Paul Bohac seconded the motion. Before voting on the motion to realign the elementary schools, the many interested citizens at the meeting were given the opportunity to speak in regard to the issue. Ramie Bakken moved to limit responses to three (3) minutes per person. Don Mathews seconded the motion. Motion carries. The comments from the public were widely varied with some wanting to keep the schools aligned as they are to some that felt the realignment was the right way to go. There were also comments in regard to a possible referendum for school improvements or a new school. After hearing the many comments from the public the board voted on the issue. Roll call vote: Ayes: Ramie Bakken, Paul Bohac, Lois Corey, Don Mathews, Barb Sedelbauer Nays: Jeff Pugh, Bill Waughtal Motion carries with a 5 to 2 vote. The elementary schools will be aligned as follows beginning with the 2006-07 school year: Pre-K – 1 – Forrest Street School Grades 2-3 – Third Street School Grades 4-5 – Gebhardt School Lois Corey moved to adjourn at 7:15 p.m. Barb Sedelbauer seconded the motion. Ayes: Ramie Bakken, Paul Bohac, Lois Corey, Don Mathews, Jeff Pugh Barb Sedelbauer, Bill Waughtal Nays: None Motion carried. The meeting was adjourned. |
