The
Black River
Falls
High School
house construction class is currently finishing its ninth house in as many years and is in need of a project for next year.
Several parties have expressed interest, but nothing has worked out
at this point and 50- plus
students who will take the
classes next year are counting on having a house to build.
Benefits
of participating in this project
 | You
would provide many students with an excellent learning
opportunity.
|
 | If
you are a first time home buyer, you would receive an $8000
stimulus package rebate.
|
 | You
would save thousands of dollars in labor costs. Most of the
student labor is free.
|
 | Interest
rates are very, very
low.
|
 | You
would be helping to train future employees for many area
businesses.
|
 | With
your help, BRFHS will celebrate its tenth anniversary
of student-built new home construction.

Since last fall, I have been watching a house grow.
It has been a positive experience all around. From the ground up,
all of the materials and services provided have been top notch and
all providers were willing to help the kids with the experience of
building a house. Some provided their services for free and the rest
were at a reduced cost to save both the buyer and myself tons of
money. All of the labor provided by the students is free, and under
Dan Olson’s expert direction, are of very good quality. I urge anyone with a
parcel of land to let the school build a house on it. Not only
do you help the school by giving back a percent of the profit (tax
reduction), but you can also feel great about giving many students
the opportunity to have skills to use in their lives forever. If there is not a parcel
this year, there will not be a house and the students would lose out on a wonderful opportunity.

We had the BRFHS Construction class build our house
in 2004. In all it was a great experience for us. We enjoyed being
able to sit down with Mr. Olson and plan the project out, as well as
watch the kids gain knowledge and experience in the construction
business. This is a fantastic hands on class to give our youth a taste of
what the construction
business entails. With Mr. Olson’s teaching abilities, along
with the guidance of our other local contractor’s and lumber
yards, this class is giving our High School students an education
that they will continue to expand upon and put to use in the working
world.

For my family, purchasing this house that the school
built was a wonderful resource. When I was in the market for
purchasing a home, I was looking for a home that was in good
condition and within my price range that would need little to no
repairs. This house met all of my needs and exceeded my
expectations. The quality of the house that was built is great. We
haven’t experienced any issues. I have appreciated the fact that
everything was new and the quality of workmanship. Not having
additional stress by having to address repairs or remodeling issues
has been a gift as well. I
would encourage anyone who has the resources to get involved with
the school and access this opportunity.

I’ve really enjoyed working with Dan and his
construction class. The students worked hard and with Dan’s
guidance, built
us a very nice home!
