Creative works from the State of Wisconsin in grades K-12 will be on display at the State Capitol in Madison from February 24 - March 9.

Twelve local students will be exhibiting work in this show: Mia Youngthunder (5th Grade), Jace Porter (5th Grade), Sparkellez Whiteeagle (2nd Grade) Jen Dahl Art Teacher. Becca Hudson ( 8th Grade), Allison Giroux (8th Grade), Travis Gargulia ( 6th Grade). Madison Eberhardt (10th Grade), Cassidy Boerger (10th Grade), McKenna Cole (12th Grade). Tylan Brown (1st Grade), Carmen Huggett (1st Grade), Aiden Haines (1st Grade).

This multi-media exhibit, sponsored by the Wisconsin Art Education Association, highlights Youth Art Month (YAM), a national celebration sponsored by The Council for Art Education. The annual celebration, which typically takes place in March, emphasizes the value of art education for all children and encourages support for quality art programs in state schools. Wisconsin’s YAM program has been celebrated as the Claire Flanagan Grand Award Winner for the past two years, the highest honor given by The Council for Art Education to recognize YAM programs throughout the country.

This exhibit will conclude with a ceremony to celebrate the young artists participating on Friday, March 9 at 12:00 noon. There will be over 36 awards handed out to Wisconsin art students, all sponsored by generous donors and the Wisconsin Art Education. The mayor of Madison, Paul Soglin, will present the Mayor’s Awards, a representative from the Governor’s office will present the Governor’s Award, Kris Bakke from Nasco will present the Nasco Awards, and Dr. Julie Palkowski from the DPI will present the DPI awards. WAEA President, Tiffany Beltz and WAEA President-Elect, Devon Calvert, will present the remaining awards. The ceremony will end with a 5th Quarter performance by members of the UW-Marching Band!
