Dear Parents/Guardians,
This October, the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) will issue a School Report Card for all of our schools in Black River Falls and for every public school in the state of Wisconsin. The School Report Card will provide valuable guidance on how our schools are doing and where we can improve. The new report cards will give us a picture of how well we are helping children learn, move to the next grade, and graduate ready for college and/or a career.
Here’s how the School Report card will work. Each school will earn a “score” from 0-100. These scores will be included on the report card. The score that our schools receive will be based on our performance in four areas.
- Student achievement in reading and math on state tests
- Student growth, measured by year-to-year improvements in achievement
- Closing gaps in performance between specific student groups
- On-track to graduation/postsecondary readiness
Based on our schools’ scores, we will be placed in one of five categories, from Significantly Exceeds Expectations to Fails to Meet Expectations.Forrest Street Early Learning Center will receive a “Not Rated” because there is not a State assessment administered to students in grades pK-1.
School Report Cards will come out every year and student results on state tests will continue to be reported. We will use the information to continue to improve our resources and instruction to meet the needs of all of our learners. The report cards will be available to the public on October 22, 2012.
Please let me know your questions on the School Report Card (Deb Olson, 715 284 4357 ex. 1203) or contact your child’s building principal.
Sincerely,
Deb Olson
