"Ozzy" Moe graduated from Black River Falls High School
in 1931. His father, Peter Moe, started a hardware store in
the Falls in the 1890s. Ozzy was born in 1912 and recounted
several great stories about his early years, including a vivid
memory of the Armistice Day celebration in the city on November
11, 1918. |
Robert Pratt was born in 1914 in
Black River Falls. His father, William Pratt, operated
a bakery and dry goods store on main street while Bob was growing
up. Bob spent the depression years working at his father's
store. |
Bob
played in the first organized band at Black River Falls High
School in 1929. The picture to the right is of Bob and four of his
friends who played in a quartet in 1930. From left to right:

Lillian recalls attending the
teacher training institute held at the Union School. |
Lillian
McManners was born and raised in rural Jackson County and
graduated from Osseo High School in the mid-1930s. She began
teaching in one-room school houses in 1937 after receiving one
year of teacher training in Black River Falls. Lillian eventually taught in Black
River Falls until she retired in 1978. |

George
Brudos was born in 1904 in Crawford County, Wisconsin. He
recounted for us in amazing detail stories of growing up in rural
Wisconsin during the early years of this century. George attended high school in La
Crosse and was a sprinter on the track team. He graduated in
1922. |
