THE FALLS HISTORY PROJECT  2005

How has music impacted the history of Black River Falls?  That is the central question driving the 2005 Falls History Project.  This year's FHP intern, Kirsten B., is centering her research on Black River Falls during the 1960s by focusing on two things:  music education at BRFHS and local performing groups that were active during the 1960s in our region.

THE 2004-05 PARTICIPANTS

Larry P. Hansen taught vocal music in BRF from 1968 until his retirement in 2001.  He was interviewed on November 10, 2004.   Kirsten Bjerke, a senior at BRFHS, was our project intern in 2005.  Her passionate interest in music led to the idea for this year's project.    Richard Camlek came to BRF in 1967 and taught instrumental music until 2000. He was interviewed on November 11, 2004.
Kirsten interviewed Margaret Severson on December 17, 2004.  Margaret taught music in Black River for her entire career and also helped to establish the Falls Players. Exploring the music history of Black River Falls in the 1960s included the wonderful story of the Exiles, a local rock band.  Dick Deno was a member of the Exiles and shared his story with us in a November 30th interview. Axel Dressler was interviewed on November 18, 2004.  Axel emigrated to America from Germany as a young boy and taught instrumental music in Black River for over a generation.

FHP Intern Kirsten B. interviews Dick Camlek about teaching music in the 1960s.   The Exiles were a 1960s rock band.  Members included Phil Semke, Dick Deno, Dave Picha, Kerry Brown, and Greg Fleming.
