THE RACE INITIATIVE

In February of 2005 we initiated something called the RACE Initiative at BRFHS. RACE stands for Respect and Character Education and the focus of the project is to promote dialogue among our students on the subject of race and diversity. We have started several activities related to this. In February and March of 2007 we are going to do a second round of visits by high schoolers with Middle School students. The pictures below are from our first effort at this in 2005.

Leah, Katie, Desiree, and Jasmine discuss race and diversity at the high school.	Caitlyn and Landis engage next year's freshmen in a discussion concerning the need for tolerance.	Kyle and Jackie talk about how we can get beyond racism and prejudice.

Appears to be some type of role play going on here!	Kristy and Brianna share some humor with next year's freshmen.	Our students did an excellent job of trying to emphasize the need to talk about issues related to race and diversity.
