Module 4 Technology and Technology Leadership Skills

My more notable technology skills are:

  • Building Computer Coordinator for the last seven years at the Black River Falls high school. Duties included: troubleshooting any problems with the 200+ computers in the high school, ghosting and backing up computers, keeping the wireless lab up and working, adding new students to the network, troubleshooting printer problems, installing printers, and any other computer related issues.  If unable to fix the problem then the technology department is contacted to fix the problem.  .
  • When ever staff or students have technology problems I am the first person they come to and usually I can figure out or fix the problem.
  • Black River Falls high school web master for the last seven years and three years at my previous school. Have worked with teachers to create web page links to use with their classes.
  • Offer assistance and support to staff as they integrate technology into the curriculum.
  • Extensive knowledge in use of online databases and internet searching to find information needed by staff and students.

My more notable technology leadership skills are:

  • One of the first staff members in the district to create school web pages. Provided staff development to other LMS in the district on how to use Microsoft Frontpage.
  • At my previous school I was a department of one so it was easier to determine my leadership skills because if I did nothing then nothing was accomplished. In my current school I am the youngest with the least seniority so I don’t necessarily see myself as a leader but I have done things which are a form of leadership. Within the first two years in my present job our department worked on an AUP and an update to the district selection policy.  I not only shared what I had done at my previous school on these policies but I also was a major contributor and writer of these policies. I was also instrumental in the districts web page development guideline policy.  I shared with the Curriculum Director various policies I found on the internet and from those our policy was written. During our Program Review two years ago I was responsible for various aspects of this document but the most important one was the rewriting of the district LMC Director job description.
  • After-school Technology classes (part of staff development portion of this portfolio) – After school staff development computer classes for staff to take to increase their technology knowledge and skills. Topics covered include online databases, online card catalog and effective internet search strategies.  Possible future sessions: Groupwise extras, using Inspiration, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Publisher, creating rubric to evaluate student PowerPoint projects, using digital cameras, LCD projectors, printer troubleshooting, and burning CDs.
