THIRD STREET REPORTER

MR. WARMKE

Oct 3, 2008

BLAST:  The Blast program will start at Gebhardt School on Monday, Oct. 6.  Parents of those students from Third Street enrolled in the program should remember to change their transportation contract if they want their children bused to Gebhardt School for this program.

Homecoming:  Thank you to all who helped at this year’s homecoming event for the grade 1–5 students.  Not only were all of our grade 1-5 staff involved but a number of high school staff and, most importantly, high school students were involved.  It was great to see our high school students leading activities and actively involved with our elementary students.  They did a great job.  We hope all that attended had a great time!

Reminder:  School Starts at 7:55 a.m. and ends at 2:51 p.m.   We ask that students not be dropped off before 7:30 a.m. for supervision reasons.  Parents please remember that parking in front of the school and the district office on both Third (morning and afternoon) and Fourth Streets (afternoon) is reserved for buses.  The BRF police department does patrol these areas and will issue tickets for cars parked in these areas during loading and unloading times.  Parents dropping students’ off in the morning should use the Fourth Street side of the school, as only one bus comes into the school on that side.  Parents picking up students at the end of the day should pick their student up at the picnic tables on the Third Street side of the building.  Students who have not been picked up when the staff returns to building, at the end of day, will be brought to the office.

This year, after receiving community complaints, the BRF Police Department will enforce No Parking on Jackson Street

Security: Regretfully in today’s society, school security has become a major issue.   In an effort to help provide for additional school safety, all of the outside doors to the building, except the Third Street playground door, will be locked.  We ask that those people coming into the building to please use that door and then sign in at the office upon their arrival.

Parents and community members are always encouraged to participate in our school, we just ask that you check in at the office upon arrival and get a visitors tag.

Late Starts:  Once each month the district holds what is called a Late Start.  On these dates (Sept. 12, Oct. 10, Nov. 14, Dec. 12, Jan. 9, Feb. 13, March 13,  April 3 and May 8) school starts 2 hours later than normal.  Thus students who normally should not be dropped off until after 7:30 a.m. on late start days should not be dropped off until after 9:30 a.m.   This is extremely important as on Late Start days the building staff may not be on site for meetings and children dropped off early would be unsupervised and may not have access to the building.
