Summer Construction Will Lead to Tennis Courts Open to the Public

The School District of Black River Falls is constructing new tennis courts at the high school during the summer of 2008. The tennis courts will be open to public use when not in use by physical education classes and/or athletic after-school tennis programs.

The city Park and Recreation department in cooperation with various youth programs and the Black River Falls School District are in the process of creating a Community Tennis Association to organize and promote tennis for youth and adults in our community with support from the USTA (United States Tennis Association).

Anticipated programming to be promoted by the Community Tennis Association will include the addition of City Park and Recreation Tennis in the Parks program for 10 and under during the summer, the creation of a Tennis Welcome Center (www.tenniswelcomcenter.com), and a USTA sanctioned adult summer league (which will co-op with the city of Taylor, Wis. this summer during construction of the new courts).

The Community Tennis Association will evaluate the success of this project in stages. The first stage of evaluation will be initiation of each of the programs listed above.  The second stage of evaluation will be done during planning for the second year of programming.
