April 6, 2018: Family Feedback Survey Results

Hello, Black River Falls Community!  This is Dr. Shelly Severson with the School District of Black River Falls here to share this week’s installment of our Spotlight on Schools!  This week I’m going to talk with you about the results from our 2018 family feedback survey!

As you have likely heard me talk about in the past, we use our perception survey feedback to mark our progress toward our strategic plan goals.  While we ask families 11 questions, there are three that we use as strong indicators of forward progress, or areas of concerns. We make the statement, “Concerns I raise about my child are addressed promptly.” This year 87% of our families agreed or strongly agreed with this statement.  This is a top priority! We are given the privilege of working with their students, and it is only logical that concerns are going to arise. When families feel like we are responsive to their concerns, this helps to increase the trust and respect we have with families.

The second high impact statement says, “I feel welcome at my child’s school.”  This year 90% of our families agreed or strongly agreed with this statement. This is a fundamental statement.  If families don’t even feel welcome in the building, it is going to be extremely difficult to engage them as partners in their child's success!

The statement that seems to summarize all of the rest of the feedback simply says, “I would recommend the School District of Black River Falls to other families.”  This year we had 86% of our families agree/strongly agree. This is down slightly from 90% last year, which is concerning to us. The great news is that we also ask for narrative feedback from families and their comments are extremely helpful in pointing us in the right direction in our improvement efforts.  You’ll be hearing more about this information as the year goes on, but I wanted to share these first early glimpses of celebration! We are so proud of our students and staff, and it is incredibly affirming to get such positive feedback from the families that we serve!

Just a quick reminder that Saturday, April 14 is the date of the Home Show at the Milt Lunda Memorial Arena.  At that same event, there will be several student organizations working with Gross Motors on a Buick Test Drive event!  All you have to do is fill out a quick survey, take a short test drive, and these organizations will receive $20 per test drive. Your WHOLE donation of time would be no more than 15 minutes, with the drive included!  Please consider stopping sometimes between 8:00 am and 4:00 pm and help out the Girls Golf Team, the Class of 2020, the Dance Team, FBLA, and the Tiger Letter Club! We hope to see you Saturday, April 14!

As always, thank you for your support of the School District of Black River Falls.  If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact me!  Let’s show our Tiger Pride in all that we do!
