The Black River Falls Shooting Tigers trap team achieved historic success at the state SCTP Trap shoot during the weekend of June 20-21. The three-day championship featured 1,994 athletes from 94 teams. The Tiger varsity squad earned a 7th-place finish, marking the highest ranking in the history of the school's program and missing first place by just 11 targets. Multiple intermediate and junior varsity shooters also achieved personal best scores during the massive event.

The varsity team finished with a combined score of 478 out of 500 total targets. The squad was powered by Sawyer Ewing with a 93, Huston Arnaud with a 94, Reece Youngthunder with a 95, Roman Madvig with a 96, and Nate Gargulak with a perfect 100 straight.

Gargulak's perfect performance earned him a spot in the tournament's final rounds.

The perfect score came at a memorable moment for the senior athlete.

"This was Nates first 100 straight and what a time to peak," coach Scott Goetzka said.

During the Sunday afternoon tie-breaker, Gargulak faced off against three other shooters who had also hit 100 straight targets. He stayed perfect under pressure to secure the outright state championship.

"Nate shot another 25 straight, thus beating out the other three shooters who dropped 1 to 4 targets each," Goetzka said.

By outshooting more than 1,900 athletes from across Wisconsin, Gargulak brought home the top individual crown.
