☀️ Summer Reading Challenge Post #1: Read outside!
Summer reading helps children maintain their school-year reading gains--and potentially improve their skills. To help families out, we've got a weekly challenge this summer! Here's the first challenge to share with your kids:
Take your book into the sunshine and enjoy the fresh air. Take a pic of you reading outside, and post the photo in the comments to earn some recognition (and rumor has it...one randomly-chosen reader in the comments will get a small prize)! #brfreads

Celebrate Our Greats! Nominations are now open for the Distinguished Alumni Award and the Athletic Hall of Fame.

Ken Deal, who spent 8 years at Red Creek Elementary, is known for his “speed cleaning” skills and joyful spirit. A favorite memory: every class singing to him on his birthday!
Originally from Salt Lake City, Ken settled in Wisconsin and earned a degree from WTC. In retirement, he’s excited to travel and spend time with family. Drop your favorite Ken memory in the comments! 👇 #tiGRRpride

Today was the last day of school, and our Red Creek and Forrest Street teachers lined the bus loop to send students off with hugs, high-fives, and lots of well wishes. There were plenty of smiles—and even a few tears (mostly from the teachers!).
We’re wishing all our students and staff a fun, restful, and safe summer. ☀️
We can’t wait to see you again at Open House on August 21 from 2–6 PM!

🌟🐄 Alice in Dairyland, Scholze Beef, Our Nutrition Dream Team — and a Real Live Calf from Mud Hollow Farm?! Now That’s a Farm to School Finale! 🥛🍔💚
We wrapped up our Adopt a Cow adventure with a Farm to School Celebration full of learning, laughter, and local flavor — all starring our beloved calf, Galaxie Oreo Milkshake! 🐮💫 (Well, almost — a sweet stand-in calf made a guest appearance on Galaxie’s behalf!)
💚 Our incredible Nutrition Team served up a Wisconsin-proud lunch featuring:
🍔 Wagyu beef burgers & brats from Scholze Family Farms (Humbird, WI), processed at Blair Meats
🍎 Seneca Apple Chips
🥦 Fresh fruits & veggies
🍨Yogurt Parfaits — the ultimate dairy dessert!
🎉 A special thank you to Alice in Dairyland, who joined us to serve lunch and share her passion for local agriculture with our students!
🐄 And a huge shoutout to Josh and Jennifer Koebler of Mud Hollow Farm and their son Wyatt Koebler, who surprised students with a visit from a real live calf — offering kids a hands-on glimpse into the world of dairy farming and bringing our Adopt a Cow experience to life!
From meeting a real calf to learning where their food comes from, students left with full hearts and fuller bellies — and a deeper appreciation for the people and animals behind every bite. 🚜🥛
Thank you to all our partners, staff, and students who made this celebration one to remember — and of course, to our moo-velous friend Galaxie Oreo Milkshake! 💫🐄

Attention Shopaholic Parents (We See You )! We know it feels like just yesterday you were packing away sunscreen and pool noodles. But guess what? The whispers are true—eventually, school's coming. And while those enticing back-to-school sale flyers might be flooding your mailbox, fear not! We still need to pick out our new teacher outfits (fashionable sweater vests, anyone?). ✏️ Bookmark this post! It's ready when you're ready!
✏️ Sharpen those shopping pencils! You'll be all set by the time open house arrives (August 22--one month from today).

Hey, there! The updated 2024-2025 calendar is here to help you stay on track! Get it here: https://5il.co/2p5va

The School District of Black River Falls will be closed on Friday, January 12th due to the pending snow storm. While we typically try to wait until the snow is actually flying before closing, the timing of this storm is going to make that difficult. We will have to trust the meteorologists that are quite certain it will be unsafe travel during the late morning and early afternoon.
This means that all after school activities are also cancelled. As a reminder, Monday, February 15th is also a scheduled day off of school. Enjoy the long weekend!

Final pictures of the 3rd Grade parade!

More pictures on 3rd grade parade!

Last week, 3rd grade classes read the book Balloons over Broadway, which is a biography about Tony Sarg and his role in creating the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade balloons. Then students created their own puppets for our third grade parade! Students worked really hard and impressed everyone with their creativity! #tiGRRpride!

Vincent Johnson is a local veteran and also is Evelyn's and Rivers' uncle. Both of these third graders are in Mrs. Kundinger's class so Mr. Johnson was kind enough to stop by the classroom after the Veterans Day Assembly. He showed the students some of the gear he needs to wear and let them try it out. The students also tried some applesauce cake from an MRE that he brought in. Thank you, Mr. Johnson, for sharing with us!

Veteran's Day Surprise: Veteran Betsy Thompson delivered a gift to one of our Red Creek students. What an awesome surprise!

Art is supposed to be messy and Mrs. Repka's class figured it out when working with clay to make owls using the slab technique.
