Please welcome Kara Anderson, who will be working in the Alec Room at the middle school! With 1.5 years of experience, Kara is excited to continue building connections with students. She enjoys Mt. Dew, is a big fan of ‘80s and ‘90s music, and fondly remembers kickball at recess. Kara shared that one of her joys is getting videos of her granddaughter, which always brightens her day.

Welcome to the School District of Black River Falls, Emily Herman! Emily joins Forrest Street Elementary as a first grade teacher and is brand new to teaching. We’re excited to welcome Kathy Jones to Forrest Street Elementary, where she will be a 4K teacher! With 22 years of experience, Kathy brings a wealth of knowledge and a passion for inspiring our youngest learners. She enjoys Italian food, quilting, and spending time with her family—especially when her daughter is smiling with pride in her accomplishments. Please welcome Helena Ortiz, who is joining the High School as a Paraprofessional! Helena is excited to be working with a variety of students, helping their minds grow, and getting to know their unique interests. She loves philly cheese and grilled cheese sandwiches 🥪, and enjoys taking her children to the All Abilities Park near the Lunda Center. Fun fact: Helena has a beautiful singing voice—she grew up singing in her church choir and loved sharing songs with children at her former daycare. At the end of the day, her favorite moments are always spent with her two boys, who make everything brighter.

Welcome to the School District of Black River Falls, Carisa Figlmiller! Carisa joins Black River Falls High School and Middle School as an Agriscience Teacher & FFA Adviser in her third year of teaching. She’s excited to continue building relationships with students and community members to grow the agriculture program and offer amazing opportunities. Carisa is a master seamstress who can sew anything beautifully and is known for always being prepared with her “mom bag” of essentials. She loves chocolate-covered almonds and can’t wait to explore Lunda Park more. Her joy in seeing people smile—especially while enjoying agriculture—makes her a perfect fit for our schools.
