Boys basketball game change
On senior night, the BRF Tigers brought home a big conference victory against Westby. The Tigers were down by 14 early in the game but stormed back to take a 39-34 lead at halftime and finished with an 83-75 win. Cecil Lopez scored a career-high 29 points, Braylon Backaus scored 24, and Nolan Boehm scored 14. Other contributors were Noah Larkin (5 points), Zaedyn Roseth (5 points), Lyndon Greengrass (4 points and 11 rebounds), and Archer Grant (2 points). With the win, the Tigers doubled their conference win total from last season and finished 5th in the Coulee Conference.

Our boys left it all on the ice last night in a rousing playoff matchup against Baldwin-Woodville, but came up just short, falling 4-3. Tiger families, meet childcare center director Caitlin Osegard! She's part of the team preparing Gebhardt School to welcome our youngest Tigers on June 2, 2025. Enrollment is expected to open by mid-March, with full-time care available year-round (6:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.). We'll explore the possibility of adding part-time options as we grow. In a non-conference matchup against Bangor on Parent's Night, February 17, the BRF boy's basketball team went into halftime up by just 1 point, but they stormed out of the gate in the second half. They disrupted passing lanes on defense, leading to transition baskets on the other end on their way to an 86-69 win. Braylon Backaus led the team in scoring (36) and assists (7), Nolan Boehm scored on back-to-back 3-pointers to start the second half on his way to 17 points, Cecil Lopez played high-energy defense on his way to 12 points, Lyndon Greengrass was a passing and rebounding machine on his way to 6 points, and Will Sedelbauer gave the team a big lift off the bench on his way to 4 points. Other contributors were Mason Meimann (4 points), Zaedyn Roseth (3 points), Noah Larkin (2 points), and Archer Grant (2 points).

Due to the extreme cold, the School District of Black River Falls will be closed tomorrow, Tuesday, February 18, 2025. Temperatures will slowly creep up during the day. As our high school teams are heading into post-season play, all scheduled competitions will proceed Tuesday evening—pending our opponents’ agreement. BRF 64 Neillsville 56 In a non-conference matchup against Neillsville on February 11, the BRF Tigers played team-oriented basketball to take down the Warriors 64-56. Cecil Lopez tied a career-high with 25 points and had the hot-shooting hand. Braylon Backaus scored 15 points and led the Tigers defensively in the second half with ball pressure and open-court steals. Nolan Boehm scored 14 points while containing the Warrior's point guard for most of the game. Lyndon Greengrass scored 8 points while leading the team in assists, playing the high post offensively against the Neillsville zone defense. Noah Larkin scored 2 points with a few crucial late-game free throws.  BRF 54 GET 93 BRF fell to a red-hot shooting GET team in a conference matchup on February 13. Braylon Backaus led the team in scoring (28 points) and assists (4 assists) while also putting down his first in-game dunk. Cecil Lopez scored 14 points with an efficient shooting night. Other contributors offensively were Nolan Boehm (4), Zaedyn Roseth (3), Mason Meimann (3), and Noah Larkin (2).
