Today, the High School Science Club had a blast guiding the third graders through an exciting day of environmental activities at the school forest! The students explored different stations, learning about animal trapping and examining various animal furs, sharpening their observation skills with a Fox Hunt game, and practicing their stealth in a Camouflage Caterpillar activity. They also enjoyed a pond-side scavenger hunt, got creative with a leaf-coloring station, and learned valuable fire safety tips. And, of course, we wrapped up the day with a classic campfire treat—S'mores! 🔥🍫 A huge thank you to everyone who made this hands-on learning experience possible! #SchoolForestFun #HandsOnLearning #ScienceClub

Last Friday, our first-grade students wrapped up their human body unit with an exciting visit to Forrest Street Hospital! They had a blast learning about the different areas of the hospital through hands-on activities. Check out Ms. Walker’s class, who got to “play operation” in the OR and even made human body models out of Play-Doh in the outpatient area! What a fun way to bring their lessons to life! #LearningInAction #FutureMedicalProfessionals

Dear Families: The School District of Black River Falls strives to create systems of academic and social-emotional support linked directly to the assessed needs of our students. Universal screening helps school staff to determine which students may need additional layers of support or instruction. These academic and behavioral screening assessments are typically administered to all students two to three times per year. The universal screening tool iReady is used in math and reading to help determine where students might have gaps in knowledge and need assistance. The Social Skills Improvement Screener (SSIS) focuses on the domains of self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making. The SSIS is completed by teachers of students in grades 1 through 12 at the beginning of October. Students do not complete the screener. The results of the SSIS will be used to reinforce best practices and provide identified students with additional targeted support. Thank you for your support in assisting The School District of Black River Falls in building a system of student support that is linked directly to data. This will ensure that each of our students has the opportunity to receive the assistance they need to achieve academic and social-emotional success. Please do not hesitate to contact your student’s building principal if you would like your child to opt out of this universal screening process. Sincerely, Melanie Floyd Melanie Floyd Director of Special Education & Pupil Services (715) 284-4357 ext. 1201
