We would like to extend a huge congratulations to our Middle School VEX teams! Two teams competed at state on Sunday and did a great job.
The "Eye of the Tiger" team finished 7th out of 48 teams. The gentlemen battled issues with their autonomous program but did not give up. They finished 12th out of 110 plus teams in the state.
"The Slayers" team received the judges award . The Judges Award recognizes attributes that may not fit in other award categories and the Judges felt were deserving of special recognition. The Judges Award is a required award if Judging is being conducted at an event. Optionally, a second Judges Award may be presented at an event at the discretion of the Event Partner and Judge Advisor. This is the only Judged Award that may be presented in more than one instance at an event.
Key criteria of the Judges Award are:
- Team displays special attributes, exemplary effort, or perseverance at the event.
- Team overcomes an obstacle or challenge and achieves a goal or special accomplishment.
- Team interview demonstrates effective communication skills, teamwork, professionalism, and a student-centered ethos.
The ladies had a rough start on Saturday night. It took them about 7-8 tries to pass inspection. Each adjustment was less than an inch. The head judge of Vex IQ State saw the determination and perseverance in the ladies. A gentleman from a huge robotics club also told me that he has seen teams give up, cry, and break their robots after failing just 4 times. The Head judge nominated them because of what he saw on Saturday evening and their unique design.
Congratulations teams as this was BRF Middle Schools first time receiving an award at state!
