Last Friday, our first-grade students wrapped up their human body unit with an exciting visit to Forrest Street Hospital! They had a blast learning about the different areas of the hospital through hands-on activities. Check out Ms. Walker’s class, who got to “play operation” in the OR and even made human body models out of Play-Doh in the outpatient area! 📣🏆 Congratulations to our Academic All-State Honorees! 🏆📣 Black River Falls High School is excited to announce that student-athletes Kaylee Wood and Lillian Harvieux have been recognized by the Golf Coaches Association of Wisconsin (GCAW) as 2024 Academic All-State honorees for their exceptional achievements on the golf course and in the classroom! 🎉 This prestigious award honors student-athletes who: ✅ Hold a GPA of 3.25 or higher ✅ Participated in at least 75% of varsity competitions during the 2024 season ✅ Uphold athletic and school conduct codes Kaylee and Lillian are shining examples of what it means to be student-athletes. Their commitment, drive, and dedication to both academics and athletics set an inspiring standard for all students. We’re excited to recognize Connie and Laurel from our nutrition department for representing the School District of Black River Falls at the USDA’s 2024 Healthy Meals Summit in Las Vegas last week, the largest gathering of school food leaders nationwide. Selected by DPI and paid for by Action for Healthy Kids, these trailblazers represented our district’s dedication to scratch cooking, farm-to-school initiatives, and innovative nutrition practices that bring education into the cafeteria. Dear Families: The School District of Black River Falls strives to create systems of academic and social-emotional support linked directly to the assessed needs of our students. Universal screening helps school staff to determine which students may need additional layers of support or instruction. These academic and behavioral screening assessments are typically administered to all students two to three times per year. The universal screening tool iReady is used in math and reading to help determine where students might have gaps in knowledge and need assistance. The Social Skills Improvement Screener (SSIS) focuses on the domains of self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making. The SSIS is completed by teachers of students in grades 1 through 12 at the beginning of October. Students do not complete the screener. The results of the SSIS will be used to reinforce best practices and provide identified students with additional targeted support. Thank you for your support in assisting The School District of Black River Falls in building a system of student support that is linked directly to data. This will ensure that each of our students has the opportunity to receive the assistance they need to achieve academic and social-emotional success.
