Dear Families: The School District of Black River Falls strives to create systems of academic and social-emotional support linked directly to the assessed needs of our students. Universal screening helps school staff to determine which students may need additional layers of support or instruction. These academic and behavioral screening assessments are typically administered to all students two to three times per year. The universal screening tool iReady is used in math and reading to help determine where students might have gaps in knowledge and need assistance. The Social Skills Improvement Screener (SSIS) focuses on the domains of self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making. The SSIS is completed by teachers of students in grades 1 through 12 at the beginning of October. Students do not complete the screener. The results of the SSIS will be used to reinforce best practices and provide identified students with additional targeted support. Thank you for your support in assisting The School District of Black River Falls in building a system of student support that is linked directly to data. This will ensure that each of our students has the opportunity to receive the assistance they need to achieve academic and social-emotional success. Please do not hesitate to contact your student’s building principal if you would like your child to opt out of this universal screening process. Sincerely, Melanie Floyd Melanie Floyd Director of Special Education & Pupil Services (715) 284-4357 ext. 1201

It’s so hot out there, you don’t even need to know how to read a thermometer in Celsius! Due to the scorching heat index today, we're moving today's (August 26) C-team football game time from 5 to 7 PM to avoid melting on the field. 🔥 Spectators, bring water. We won't have concessions available.
