First up, let’s give a big round of applause to Lily Miller for her incredible performances in cross country!

Jackson Correctional Institute (JCI) teamed up with BRF Walmart to make a difference! Together, they identified food items of interest to the Persons In Our Care (PIOC). Through this partnership, the upcharge from the cost of goods sold turned into a donation for the School District of Black River Falls, specifically to support their Angel Funds program.
We’re proud to share this initiative and the impact it will have on local students.

The Falls History Project has been going strong since 2000 with the goal of exploring the history of our community. Our 2024-25 project focuses on the Hochungra School that operated from 1934 to 1963 at the Ho-Chunk Mission, seven miles east of Black River Falls. Spurred by the criticisms of the boarding schools voiced in the 1928 Meriam Report and the subsequent passage of the Johnson-O’Malley Act of 1934, the Hochungra School offered a unique experiment in our region of Wisconsin. Our senior intern, Karolann Mann, will be interviewing Ho-Chunk tribal members who attended the school as part of our research. In addition, we will explore the role of teacher Emma Olson during her twenty-nine years at the school. We invite any Ho-Chunk elders that attended the Hochungra School to share their stories with us. If interested, contact Eli Youngthunder at the high school. We will publish our final paper on our website toward the end of May. You may check out all twenty-one of our projects at fallshistoryproject.com
