Let's hear it for Anna Janowski, the girls hockey Athlete of the Month! Coach Mathison had some great things to say about Anna.
"Anna’s desire to improve on every drill, practice, and game is a blueprint for her teammates to follow. Anna’s season started with a limited role as a penalty killer. She used that playing time to absolutely make her penalty kills a ‘must watch.’ Not a single player on our bench stays seated when Anna is on the kill, and it ignites a spark throughout the team. Anna has taken that limited role and used it to become a top 9 forward that we lean on at the end of tight games. Every week her playing time has increased. Anna is generating more and more scoring chances for herself and linemates. It’s only a matter of time before the goals will start piling in. Keep it up, kid!”

Congratulations to December boys basketball Athlete of the Month, Nolan Boehm. Coach Jack Taylor had great things to say about Nolan: "Nolan’s hard work, competitive spirit, and positive leadership has been the backbone of our basketball team. His quickness, defense, and rebounding ability has also been a huge asset to the team. The team voted for Nolan to be one of our captains of the basketball team, which speaks to his character and leadership!” Way to go, Nolan!

The Lady Tigers JV lost their game against Royall last night, 27-28. The Tigers kept it a close game the whole time. Charlise Tebo racked up 17 points, with one shot being from the 3-point line. Their defense was top-notch as well.
The varsity Tigers had great momentum but fell 56-70 to Royall in the end. Kenley Brown and Bella Falcon both scored 14 points.

Seniors David Jacobs and Garrett Tande represented our school as part of the Wisconsin Concert Band Association's All-State High School Honors Band at UW-Whitewater on January 17-18! Professor Alex Kaminsky from VanderCook College of Music in Chicago conducted this talented 90-member ensemble. After many hours of hard work and rehearsals, the group delivered an outstanding performance on Saturday evening. In addition to their own performance, David and Garrett had the opportunity to enjoy inspiring concerts by the All-State Junior Band and the Intercollegiate Band.
Congratulations to them both on this amazing achievement!

Dig this! Our fourth graders have been on a historical adventure, uncovering the stories of Wisconsin's earliest cultures! 🗿 An archaeologist from UW-La Crosse stopped by with artifacts and replicas from the Mississippi Valley Archaeology Center. 🛠️ Students became junior archaeologists, matching the artifacts to the right cultures based on their recent lessons. Talk about bringing history to life!

We've got a quick heads-up for anyone planning on heading to Stratford today for the boys' basketball games! The games will be postponed because Stratford School District is canceling classes on Monday and Tuesday. When our athletic directors find a new date, you'll be able to find the new times on couleeconference.org.
Stay warm today!

The Black River Falls wrestling teams had a busy Saturday at two tournaments.
At the Westby Girls Invite, the girls team delivered outstanding results. Charlie Heath claimed first place with a stellar performance. Annaliese Rave and Katelyn Nosbisch each earned second-place finishes, and Zoie Scholze rounded out the day with a fourth-place finish.
Meanwhile, the boys team competed against over 20 teams at the Ladysmith Invitational. Auston Taylor dominated his matches, earning a well-deserved first-place finish. Sully King and Keanau Goldsmith also showcased their skills, both securing fourth-place finishes in their respective weight classes.
Congratulations to all the wrestlers on their hard work and achievements! Keep pushing forward!

Both the JV and varsity girls basketball teams faced tough competition against Blair-Taylor on Saturday. Varsity put up a strong fight but came up short with a 60-37 loss. Cherelle Gundersen and Bella Falcon each scored 8 points, while Hannah Falcon added 6. The Lady Tigers showed great determination, holding the Wildcats to just 23 points in the first half.
Well done, ladies! Be proud of your effort and keep up the hard work!

BRF boys basketball played at Westby Friday night and won their second straight conference game, 65-48.
The Tigers controlled the game from the opening tip until the final buzzer. Their zone defense removed Westby's sharpshooters from the perimeter and forced turnovers that led to many transition layups.
Braylon Backaus led the team with 27 points. Following were Cecil Lopez (13 points), Nolan Boehm (12 points), Zaedyn Roseth (6 points), Will Sedelbauer (4 points), Mason Meimann (2 points), and Toby Hovland (1 point).
The Tigers have matched last season's conference win total (2) with the win.
Also, at halftime, senior Archer Grant's dad, Taron Grant, won the 50/50 raffle and donated it to the boys basketball program—thank you!!!
